Job Title: Executive Director (Commercial Banking)
Reports to: Managing Director/CEO
Directly Manages: Divisional Heads, Group Heads of Business Units within the
Directorate

Job Purpose/summary

To profitably grow the market and customer base for the commercial banking directorate and ensure sustained increase in deposits, robust balance sheet (for both assets and liabilities) and revenue from business operations anchored on quality service delivery and creation of positive customer experience.

Key Functions/Responsibilities

  • Initiates and coordinates the implementation of approved
    commercial banking strategies and business growth plans for the
    target market segments and customers to ensure the profitable
    achievement of set performance goals
  • Scans the environment and gathers business intelligence that
    can facilitate the identification of business opportunities, business
    development and growth imperatives within the commercial
    banking market segment
  • Identifies and pursues new business opportunities from both
    existing and new business customers, by analysing opportunities
    to up sell and maximizing the full banking relationships
  • Provides clear direction on all Commercial banking operations by
    translating set corporate objectives to corporate and investment
    banking performance metrics and drives the business sales team
    to achieve set targets
  • Coordinates the conduct of competitor/market analysis and
    research, and customer needs analysis on an ongoing basis to
    ensure continued competitiveness, relevance and profitability of
    commercial banking offerings
  • Provides market intelligence in supporting the Bank’s efforts to
    develop new products and new value-added services for clients
  • Liaises with other Directorate Heads and Business Managers to
    facilitate the preparation of annual marketing plans and
    strategies for liability generation to enable Relationship Managers
    to achieve targeted growth objectives.
  • Liaises with Risk Management and Service Quality & Review Units
    to advise on service performance standards and ensure that the
    credit requests for new and existing facilities are correctly
    prepared in accordance with bank policies
  • Reviews and authorizes corporate banking credit applications
    from account managers prior to submission to Risk Management
  •  Provides regular credit reviews of Commercial Banking clients
    and defends initiated credit applications when presenting to the
    Credit Management Committee
  • Reviews adequacy of credit proposals and makes appropriate
    recommendations to guide informed management decisions
  • Builds and maintains effective commercial banking relationship
    management system to ensure continuous tracking and
    measurement of corporate customer satisfaction/loyalty
  • Conducts monthly review of Balance sheet and Income line
    performance of each Branch and corporate banking staff of the
    branch against set targets
  • Monitors customer engagement and service delivery quality to
    ensure standards are maintained in order to achieve high
    customer retention, and facilitates strong customer relationship
    management to drive growth in market share
  • Liaises with the service quality management function to define
    and ensure continuous quality improvements in commercial
    banking service delivery standards
  • Provides hands-on leadership and supervision of the activities of
    Relationship Managers to ensure optimal achievement of set
    performance targets.
  • Conducts meetings with direct line reports and operation staffs to
    address all issues that affects productivity or otherwise including
    general administration of running the branch.
  • Reviews the individual performance of team members and
    against target set and agreed at the beginning of the financial
    year and makes recommendations on improvement
    requirements.

Education:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in finance/ Accounting or Business Administration and Management or related field
  • An MBA (or master’s degree) is an added advantage

Experience:

  •  Minimum of 15-20 years of related experience in a bank or related department
  • At least 10 years heading a business/corporate/Institutional banking function at senior management level
