Job Purpose/summary

As an experienced Instrumentation Design Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing towards the preparation of Instrumentation deliverables for conceptual/basic, Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Engineering Design (DED) for Oil/Gas Facilities and Buildings.

Key Functions/Responsibilities

  • Prepare design Specifications for Field Instruments (pressure instruments, temperature instruments, level instruments, flow instruments, shutdown and Blow down Valves), Instrument Cables and Control systems (SIS, PAS, FGS, metering, control panel, control system)
  • Prepare Instrumentation Philosophies (SIS, PAS, FGS, metering, tagging), Control and safeguarding narratives.
  • Prepare instrument Index, instrument datasheets, I/O list, cable schedule, Alarm and trip settings, Cause and effect matrix (including the F&G cause and effect matrix) and MTO for instruments.
  • Prepare utility consumption calculations for power and instrument air.
  • Prepare RFQs (Field instruments, control systems, control panels)
  • Review of Instrumentation drawings (location drawings, interconnection drawings, cable termination drawings, cable tray/route drawings, cable block diagrams, control system block diagrams, shutdown logic diagrams, function block logic diagrams, hook-up drawings for various instruments, FAR layout drawings, junction box termination drawings, level coordination sketches,).
  • Prepare engineering calculation spreadsheets.
  • Liaise with other departments, clients, vendor, subcontractors, third parties and approving authority.
  • Participate in inter-disciplines meetings to monitor project progress, engage with client, vendor, subcontractors and third parties for Clarification/ Review meetings as applicable.
  • Independently design, review constructability review, P&ID review and 3D model review meetings, HAZOP, SIL classification Reviews
  • Perform inter discipline check on Instrumentation deliverables and execute other job as assigned by the Lead Engineer.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Eng. Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Experienced in Specification and selection of Fields Instrumentation and control Systems.
  • Highly motivated and have ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office tools and Adobe editing system.
  • Excellent use of Engineering Software’s (i.e. AUTOCAD.)
  • Conversant with National and International Codes, Standards and Engineering Practices used in the industry – API, ASME & ISA, ANSI, AGA, IEC, API, PIP, NACE STANDARDS, DNV STANDARDS AND ASTM, ASME and API MSS etc.
  • Instrumentation engineering expertise and competency in Basic Design, FEED and Detailed design – Mastery
  • Ability to use SPI INTOOLS modules to generate Instrumentation documents (Index, specification sheet, wiring diagram, calculation, process data, hook-ups and can create a database using the administrator module) – Mastery
  • Ability to use INSTRUCALC for valve sizing, flow element calculations
  • Familiar with relevant engineering standards Total GS, DEP, ISA, ASME, ANSI, AGA, IEC, API, PIP and other company related standards.
  • Familiar with control/safety systems like HIMA, ALLEN BRADLEY, YOKOGAWA, EMERSON DELTA V, INVENSYS-Triconnex shall be an added advantage
  • Proficient in the use of Instrumentation Vendor software’s like Segment design tool 5.3.0(Emerson), -Instrument toolkit (Emerson), SRVS6.2 (consolidated), ValspeQ (Masoneilan), Design Mate (FF), Aspire 2, Aspire E, PRV2SIZE(PENTAIR) shall be an added advantage.
